(some photos will come soon...)
I wrote really different story about us, where was mentioned some facts, dates and some info….
… but than I had a feeling it could be written in other way so read….
I am interested in Rhodesian Ridgebacks since 2002 year, when I bring home my first girl Lady. (she was born 01.01.2002)
Maybe you think, why we still did not have any puppies, if there is a kennel and girl from 2002 year. And that is the reason I want to let you know, why and how it all start…
If a man wants anything desperately, the life can change it. The life still testing us, learn us and give us many barriers on our way. And we have to take it all, the good things we like and all the bad things to tolerate. If the life harts us, it is because it wants learn us. We need to learn to live the life and be happy of all the smallest things it giving to us.
In the beginning, I had no information about Rhodesian Ridgeback breed at all. I did not know about dogs too much. Only some practical things from my childish experiences, because my family had always a dog at home. In spite of the RR high 69cm written in the dog Atlas- where I sow ridgeback for the first time, in spite of my parents they said that the dog is too big for me and will pulled me and I can not upkeep it (you know it? ;o) ) I really like the breed and wanted it. I decided for a female ridgeback, because they use to be smaller and as a “woman” I think they are more sensible. So and the other things was, that I would like to have some puppies after my girl will be ready.
On this place I have a question for you: Do you still think that the breeding is simple? – So read more….
I jumped “headlong“ into ridgeback world. And from that time it began my love and my life “suffering” in ridgebacks. We started to show our first girl Lady and we met very nice people on the shows. There was always fun and we liked the company of people around ridgebacks show rings. I wrote we liked, because I involved my boyfriend in my interest of ridgebacks. Or maybe it was no me, because I think that ridgebacks is a virus – believe me ;o)
I find many information about RR and collect all what was new for me.
And than- the first temptation of life had come. It should wake me up from my sweet dreams into the reality. We find out that our girl does not have one tooth and because of it, she cannot pass the breeding approval test according to the Slovakian ridgeback Club rules. It was a really kick from the life…
Is my girl deficient because of it? She is healthy full of energy, she is like tornado- when she is running to catch the rabbit, and she is ideal watchdog, the chief of our dog pack and the heartbreaker of all family members. She is perfect African lion dog and great guardianship and because of the tooth she cannot have a puppies?
Well, if there are rules we take it.
And that was the first time when my good friend told me: “if you want breed, you need also a bit of luck”.
Maybe because I don't like to give it up when first barier appear, I started a huge search after health & RR, I started to contact experienced breeders and asked and still ask… So I find one special breeder (in my eyes) who sent me a very hard e-mail, sit me on the ground and finally opened the eyes into the reality. I had two choices: to not take the words and be upset, or to let the words go in my heart. Till this day I appreciated the words, which sent me the breeder (I am sure you know who you are)
I believed that I could have the luck to have one more ridgeback girl, the very good one who should be benefit for my breeding. But don't you think it was easy. I searched a lot in pedigrees asked a lot all people and breeders around and searched more and more…
I waited for my new girl a quiet long time, doing my best to find out all info about her ancestors and parents. Can you really find it all about? ...hm - that is a question…
Becky, Beckson, Beckosaurus, Tarzan, Satan, Beba was maximum challenge - I ever known, she was everywhere, she sow and heard everything, she “studied” a lot of everything, she swallow and taste a lot of things, she was always hurried, never stop herself, she always talked and chided with us, sitting on the chair behind the table, luckily she did not learn smoke cigarettes, eating with the cutlery and drink beer with the Fernet stock….
She was incredible and impossible, our power to the life our happiness and our treasure we had…
… But again the Life…
Maybe her destiny was written in the stars, but we did not see it, because we were so in love with her… The life took her from us …
Can you imagine that you lost your closest friend? -Your family member?
Can you imagine -when the shining, sparkling, happy eyes are gone and never will follow you?
- when the life took your biggest hope, your power, happiness and incredible personality…
- when you never cuddle your sweetie, when is so silent, because she is not talking anymore?
- when her eyes never met yours and don't tell you- I love you?
Becky had everything; yes also full set of teethes- big like a crocodile…
It was over….
When you have broken hearts you think you don't go to the same “river” again. Searching again, find and be beaten? No… it was enough…
And than, when you had a lot of work about your interest, when you still did something, searched, read, wrote, when you wanted to know more, when you had expectations, when you lived in show-rings, when you met many lovely people, than you don't do anything, because you lost the reason why…
If you felt like that in your life, you know you have to do something…We searched in other breeds: saluki, azawakh, whippet, Pharaoh dog – have you seen them? – the colour … the same like ridgeback has… and than you know it….
You find out that you are completely “infected” by the “Rhodesian ridgeback VIRUS” you find out, that you don't sleep because of it, you still think about ridgebacks, you have in your head nice memories, you want to see your old ridgebacks friends…
Do you think you can stand this? …
What next than?
Yes, you already know. After one year we waited, we brought home a girl – of course ridgeback one.
She is very special for us. We keep her like our biggest treasure we ever had.
I have to say- I always wanted the devil Becky back, but this girl is really different. She is a rescue for our harts. I did not planed brown nosed, but she is, and you know brown nosed character only if you own one. Yes- and the judges sometimes don't know, that brown nosed RRs are normal ;o)
With Ani, we have the reason to live, we are back in the show rings, we meet all nice ridgeback friends we known – they are all exceptional- but the don't know about it ;o) , we spend lots of time in ridgeback world and again I research more and more in health, genetic, and ridgebacks pedigrees, but of course I know I will never know everything …..
And one more thing: I believe there is a piece of luck for us to have first puppies by our sweet Ani, finally after 5 years “infected by ridgeback virus” ;o)
What about breeding? I will tell you in another article, but for now only one opinion, which I heard from some breeder friend: It doesn't mean if you had a litter you are a good breeder…
... and the ridgeback virus is infecting more and more people....
And now some facts and dates:
After I decided to finish my adventures traveling around Europe I know I can have my own dog.
In 2001 I sow first time a Rhodesian Ridgeback pictured in the book named- Atlas of the dogs.
I knew it is the right one.
In 2002 I brought home my first girl Denny Saranga- Lady. All in my family liked her for the first sight.
At the end of 2003 year we (me and my boyfriend Tom)
brought home another girl Ain´t She Beautiful Nyathi- Becky.
26.04.2004 we receive an announcement from FCI, SKJ - the official name of our kennel is Luanda.
On 01.May 2004 I change my family name (we had wedding) and from that day we are all together.
On the last day of October 2004 we lost our darling Becky by the tragically accident.
2005th November we feel in love with brown nosed Angel – Hillvalley´s Angel for Luanda- Ani
and we are very happy for having her.
Some friends think we have more dogs, because of the pictures on our web site.
To make it clear the Luanda kennel has only two girls now: Lady and Ani – Rhodesian ridgebacks.
So what about the other dogs?
Owners of Labrador girl Megy a Deny – are Tom parents, and we use to take thus girl for a walks.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels : Marylin, Max, a Gina owning my sister Petra - she runs Vanmar Majesty kennel of this breed.
When I lived in my parents house, my family owned “king of kings” Golden Collie “Gin”- but he is gone now
and little gangsters Cavaliers " Charlie" a "Frankie"
We hope if everything goes well, we welcome our first Luanda Rhodesian Ridgeback puppies in 2008 year.
Good luck to you all Milada and all Luanda gang ;o)
Do you know why people like the Kipling poem IF ?
.... because it is life instruction....
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on !";
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!
