Lady is my first dog-love, and also my first Rhodesian ridgeback.
Why did I decide for Rhodesian ridgeback?
I found a beautiful picture of an African dog in the Book of dogs. That dog has had fantastic athletic body, beautiful deep colour of the hair, very nice eyes and a hallmark on the back- the ridge. It was written there, that these dogs hunted lions in Africa- so for me it ment the dog had to be brave. I have never seen a ridged dog before, and I felt, that the dog has to be unique.
I started to look for a puppy, because I wanted the dog immediately. I have found my first RR in Czech Republic, in the kennel SARANGA . Denny Saranga is from the line Merigals Elanda, which was the first imported RR to the Czech Republic. Merigal's Elanda was the founding bitch for all breeding in Czech republic and Slovakian.
Because the rr puppy I bring home was very gentle and she was watching the world around with her beautiful big eyes, as if she was still thinking about everything, we named her Lady. This name really fits her. Her nickname is “Kooky” (in Slovakia we can say that to someone, who has nice eyes).
We had already two dogs at home, so she learned the rules of the dog pack very easily. Kolie named Ginand Cavalier King Charles Spaniel- Charlie. They liked her very much as she loved to play with them. Her raising was also a lesson for me. I was pleased to spend the time training her and I had a lot of fun.
I have read many books about dogs' obedience and health, and I still do so. I took many good advices from experienced breeders. I don't say Lady knows everything- me as well, but I try to do my best.
Lady's favourite “discipline” is hunting. When she smells the rabbit or sees something to move on the horizon, nothing can stop her. That's why we started coursing, where she successfully obtained her Coursing Licence. She has been doing at the competition very well. Lady is one of the fastest RR in Slovakia.
Lady was also successful at the Show competitions. Her best results: Eurodogshow- Excelent 2 res.CAC, the second Young Vice bitch of the Year 2003, third best headed RR female 2003. (More results and also critiques of the shows you can find below the Show)
Lady performs in the showring because she knows, I like it- she does it for me. But she stackes her best in the kitchen when we cook something.
And what is her character?
She often surprised me how she is “resourceful”, how much she remembers, how she is thinking. She needs to prove to herself and to us, that she is the best. She tries to do everything as good as she can. She is the “boss” of our dog pack. Lady is very patient with small children and puppies. She likes to play puppies-games. When Lady doesn't smells the tracks around, she loves to drive us crazy together with our mischief-maker Becky, best friend Magee (Labrador retriever) and a small boy Frankie (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel). At home she loves to relax and fondle. She is our bravest watch dog.
When she is happy and contented, she keeps a smile on her face. All our family and dogs love her very much. Because of her I discovered a new life, full of dogs and Ridgebacks, nice people of rr, shows, atc., I learned a lot´s of about the dog health and life, without her I never did so.
